Thanks for Checking out Illustratorguy.com I chose this name because spelling out Darin Overholser is painful.

Here's some info about me. I grew up in Newcomerstown, Ohio and moved to the booming metropolis of Cincinnati to attend the Art Academy for 4 years. After graduation, I headed straight to Montgomery Inn to get fitted for my waiter vest.

In 2001, I started working as CF Payne's personal assistant on the side. I learned more from him in the first month than all 4 years in art school. Aside from his illustration skills, Chris Payne's drive and wisdom about the illustration industry is enough to make any up-and-comer want to fall to his knees and cry. My work started to improve and projects started to pop up.

An odd project that came up was from one of my best friends from high school. Dirk Gadd, who is a hunter, and I were discussing how there are so many versions of Monopoly out there, but none for Deer Hunters. We took a year to design it, found the money to print it and Whitetailopoly was released in November, 2004. It is proof that a dumb conversation between friends can turn into something great. It is weird, because I'm not a hunter, but its something so random that puts a smile on my face every time. You can buy it at www.whitetailopoly.com

During this time, I was also dabbing into standup comedy. I had been keeping a creative writing journal for some time and decided to put it to use. So I collected my random thoughts and hit the stage in Louisville. 4 years later, I'm still at it and exciting things are happening. I had a chance to perform on the same stage as the late Mitch Hedberg a month before his passing and opened up for Dave Chappelle.

Stand up and Art have melted together nicely in the past year. I'm constantly meeting comics and able to market my artwork effectively. I painted the mural at the Newport Funny Bone, which was featured on Dave Attell's DVD Hey, Your Mouth's not Pregnant!. I designed Jim Florentine's cd cover Get Your Kids Out Of The Room
The ultimate highlight is designing the backdrop for Comedy Central Presents: Pat Dixon, which is a 30 minute special on Comedy Central. Pat has been a big fan of my artwork over the years and it was truly an honor to create that image for his event.

If you are interested in any images you see on the site, I'm available for freelance illustration work and private commissions (murals, caricatures, portraits). If you have any questions about anything, feel free to send me an email at doverholser2@insightbb.com
